1757 Jan 22: Josiah Skinner of Sharon for �50 to Ebenezer Barnum of
Sharon 36 1/2 acres of land in Sharon with 1/2 of that lot on which said
Barnum and Ezekiel Chapman now live and is in Partnership between
Josiah Skinner and Ezekiel Chapman and is 1/2 Cornelius Hamlen
conveyed to me exclusive of the Grist Mill; and privileges thereon
contained and an open way to the Mill and shop by the Mill together with
1/2 of the Saw Mill. Dam Privileges of the Stream for the Saw Mill and
of Building Ironworks above the saw mill with the dwelling house (vol 4,
p 145)
1757Jan 30: Josiah Skinner of Sharon for �200 to Micah Mudge of
Sharon, land of 5 acres being a piece of land which was conveyed to
Ezekiel Chapman from his father Samuel Chapman both of Sharon lying on
the West side of the Highway which runs from said Samuel Chapman's
towards Kent, being part of that Lott of land on which a saw mill and
grist Mill stands which said Skinner owned together with the 1/2 of the
said Grist Mill and the privileges of 1/2 of the stream of water on which
the said Mill now stands to take the water out of the saw Mill Dam to
have and to hold etc. (vol 4, p 119-120)
1757 Jun 10: Josiah Skinner of Sharon for �145 paid by Arthur Boxford
of Wallingford, 53 acres of land in Sharon part of 100 acres laid out to
Jonathan Sen. and Samuel Chapman and is the whole that was set off to
said Chapman in Division One upon which said Chapman sold to
Theophilus Smith with buildings, Fruit trees, fences etc (vol 4, p 47)
From NY Historical Society Publications:
1778 Mar 29: In the name of God, Amen. I Josiah Skinner of King's
District in New York State being sick. Having already given to my son
Josiah one-third of my land, on the each side of my lot, and one-third of
all moveables, he is to pay one-third of all debts contracted before May,
1776. "All the rest I leave to my wife ELizabeth and to Hezekiah, her
son, and to Jonathan, my son, and to Anne, my wife's daughter and they
are to pay two thirds of all my debts contracted before 1776, and all
debts contracted since May 1776. The house to be contained within the
share of my wife and her daugher Anne Reserving a bedroom which I give
to my brother Jonathan during his life. The barn to be within the part
Hezekiah and Jonathan." At decease of my wife her share to go to the
said four children. Witnesses: Micah Mudge, Abraham Mudge, Jr. (no
probate) Abraham Mudge, Jr of King's District, in Albany County***says
that Josiah was sick with small pox. Will was dated 21 Mar 1778.
